The Ramirez family has built guitars from its shop in Madrid, Spain since 1882. Regarded as one of the premier luthiers in Spain in the 1980s and 1990s, Manuel Ramirez oversaw the design and construction of this guitar. This guitar is at the top of the " student line"- excellent, more affordable, or "student", guitars to make them more avaliable to the masses. This guitar was built by his son Jose in 1991 (outsourced in madrid). It is a model 3E, and his sister, Amalia, now carries on the Ramirez legacy in Madrid and produces her version of the model 3 that sells for $3300 new. Jose was a very accomplished luthier and made guitars for the likes of Andres Segovia and was instrumental (no pun intended) in his later notoriety. Compared to the current 3E this guitar uses higher grade tonewoods and were more handcrafted. The guitar has rosewood back and sides and a very beautiful straight grained cedar top. The action and intonation are excellent and the resonance and sustain are wonderful. I purchased the guitar from the original owner's son whose seventy nine year old father can no longer play. Structurally, the guitar is in sensational condition. I don't think you'll find a better 3E anywhere. I spent several hours polishing the guitar and the finish is very shiny top to bottom. One nice thing about this guitar is that it is very unlikely that it will depreciate over time. It's very easy to find high end Rameras guitars in the ten to fifteen thousand dollar range. Comes with an excellent hard shell case. And a zippered insulation bag for high altitude transport.
