The Tokai banjos were the predecessor to the early Goldstar Japanese banjos from this time period and were modeled after the Gibson Mastertone RB-250 Banjos, and were also considered to be superior to the them due to Gibson's poor quality controls during that time period.
This T-850R has a mahogany neck, rosewood fingerboard, three ply-maple rim, and a maple laminate resonator with mahogany veneer. The 20 hole tone ring of this model is made of brass die-cast.
This banjo has plenty of volume and a very sweet aged tone.It has no fingerboard or fretware and appears to have been played very little in the last 44 years of its life.It plays and feels much like an RB-3 Gibson style banjo. Comes with the HSC and strap included.
