The Oregon State Sheriffs’ Association (OSSA) is looking for an individual with creative ideas and ways to market the Office of Sheriff and the important work Sheriff’s Offices perform in each county across the state of Oregon. OSSA is looking for a motivated self-starter who is ready to hit the ground running and isn’t afraid to think outside the box and propose new ideas. Skills for this position include, creativity, strong writing skills, the ability to create a marketing plan, demonstrate knowledge of multiple social platforms and the ability to create a quarterly written publication.
The Marketing and Media Relations Specialist will work with a highly collaborative team and will have the responsibility for developing, coordinating, implementing, and evaluating content, community engagement and educational programs to share OSSA’s story with a broad range of audiences using diverse platforms. This position will use a comprehensive suite of communications tools, including public relations, branding, media relations, digital media, written media and other engagement activities. This position will provide support and advice to OSSA and the OSSA Executive Board to foster citizen participation and interest in OSSA.
To be successful in this position, candidates should demonstrate at least four (4) years’ experience in marketing and media relations, customer engagement, marketing and digital marketing, communications, public relations, or media relations, including:
Creating multimedia content for integration across multiple platforms, including managing and measuring performance of messages and campaigns to encourage public engagement, including working knowledge of new media, social media and web based methods of communication and engagement.
Outstanding verbal and written communication skills to communicate effectively as appropriate for the needs of the audience skills.
Establish and maintain effective working relationships with all levels of management, elected officials, the media, and community to best represent the organization effectively.
The skills and ability to create written content for a quarterly written publication.
Duties include but are not limited to:
Coordinate, plan and schedule social media posts via creating original content with photos and videos, reposting tagged content, respond and engage with followers in a timely manner.
Keep website content including photos and videos up to date.
Prepare Quarterly Magazine.
Creation of graphics, photos and/or videos.
Greet the public, Sheriffs and their staff in person and via telephone.
Direct phone calls, individuals, and mail to the appropriate staff.
Answer questions and assist individuals with inquiries of the OSSA office.
Back up other positions within OSSA as needed.
All other duties as assigned.
Must pass pre-employment background check.
Must have an Oregon Driver’s license and clean driving record
Associate’s degree and three (3) years of experience creating digital marketing content across multiple channels or five (5) years of experience in creating digital marketing content across multiple channels.
Knowledge and use of InDesign, Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, WordPress and photo editing software.

Hours: 40 hours per week
