I work with students in a variety of formats. I prefer in-person, but I can also meet online over Zoom for folks who would prefer that or are outside the Salem area. For in-person tutoring, I can meet student in their homes, in a tutoring space I have set up in my home in West Salem, or at a third space such as a coffee shop or library.
Originally from Des Moines, IA, I graduated in 2010 with my Bachelors and Masters in Civil Engineering from Texas A&M. I worked for four years as a structural engineer in industry. I then transitioned into teaching and taught for several years as an instructor at Houston Community College and a lecturer at the University of Texas at Tyler. In that time teaching I taught many students civil and mechanical engineering courses, met by better half, and picked up a second master's degree, this time in education. After several years of teaching, my husband and I moved to Corvallis, where I enrolled as a PhD student at Oregon State. I studied there for several years, pursuing at times work in engineering education and later a combination of structural engineering and wood science. We have since moved to Salem where I offer my services as a private tutor.
I have extensive experience in tutoring. I've been tutoring since I myself was in high school. It's been something I've done continuously since, on either a part-time or full-time basis. I primarily work with high school and college students, but I've had pleasure of working with folks from age 6 to 60. I love the rewards and challenges that working as a tutor bring. I enjoy the continuous variety and the great people I meet along the way. And there's nothing quite like seeing the light in someone's eyes when, after a long struggle to grasp a concept or lesson, it finally clicks.
